The Dead Sea is a salt lake bordering Jordan to the east and Palestine to the west. With 33.7% salinity, It is 9.6 times as salty as the ocean. This harsh environment makes animals or seaweed life almost impossible, hence its names : dead sea. The waters from the Dead Sea are unique in that they contain 27% of various salts as compared to 3% in normal sea water. The salt in most oceans is approximately 97% sodium chloride while Dead Sea salt is only 12-18% sodium chloride. The balance of the salts in Dead Sea water are magnesium, potassium, calcium chloride and bromides. Dead Sea salts can be effective in balneotherapy of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and osteoarthritis. The minerals are absorbed while soaking,stimulating blood circulation.
